Let Me Elaborate

I came across this questionnaire from Embeecee’s blog and I thought I’d join in.

This will also fit into the Daily Prompt of elaborate.

Do you have a nickname? What do you prefer to be called?  Nope.  Something non-derogatory is always good.
Do you have books on your shelf (ereader) that are begging to be read? Oh heck yeah. A lot of books that I really want to read but for some dumb reason I’m not.
Are you a doodler? What do your doodles look like? I tend to doodle when I’m on the phone. Like when I’m on hold, or I’m taking notes. Usually they’re some sort of geometric gathering.
What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? For years now, I haven’t been able to sleep without a sleep aid. Even then I can’t go right to sleep. Hubs is out in minutes, which is a marvel to me. I usually play something like Solitaire on my iPad until I can go to sleep.
How many days could you think you would last in solitary confinement? I’m basically in a sort of solitary confinement every day now. I don’t see or talk to people hardly at all during the day. Although I can go when & wherever I want. So I think I would last a good while as long as I had something to do.
Do you save old greeting cards and letters or do you toss them away? Save. I’m glad I still have the cards & letters from my mom.
Who is the biggest pack rat you know? Hmm. I was gonna say me until I thought about my brother. He’s a bibliophile. Well actually he’s a hoarder. Mostly of books, but other stuff too. He’s got a lot of storage units filled with books.
Were/are you a good student? In high school, not so much. Later, yes.
How often do you look at yourself in the mirror? A couple of times a day maybe. To get cleaned up and maybe later to get my hair out of my face.
What is the strangest thing you believed as a child? Strange question. I remember one time as a kid, I saw a Great Blue Heron flying by and I thought it was a Pterodactyl. I really believed it was. My family said no I didn’t. But they didn’t tell me what I DID see. So it was frustrating.

Do you regift items that have been given to you? No, but they’ve been known to show up in a garage sale or two. A lot of it is in storage because I don’t want to hurt a family member’s feelings by getting rid of it.
Do you know the difference between a crocodile and and alligator? Yeah?
Do you still read the newspaper? Still? I can’t say that I ever read the newspaper. Except for the comics page.
Are there any animals that frighten you? Like if I was face to face with one? Or just in general? If I were face to face with a large predator without any protection, I’d be scared. In general- I do NOT like things that can crawl on me. Like spiders.

Are you a collector of something? If so, what do you collect? Yes. Which is why I thought of myself in the pack rat question. But, collecting isn’t really being a pack rat. I collect a few things. Dragons, Schnauzer stuff.
What is something about yourself that you hope will change, but probably never will? At this age, I’ve given up on changing any core traits that I might have. I would like to be less of an introvert and be better at socializing. But it’s not gonna happen.

What’s a strange occurrence you’ve experienced but no one believes you? I know for a fact that I’ve seen an apparition and I believe I’ve seen an alien space craft. Both of which were seen by the people with me at the time. Hey, it’s hard for me to believe, even though I was there so how can I expect someone else to believe it when they weren’t?
What’s something that amazes you? There is so much that amazes me even to this day. I don’t know where to begin.
Do you prefer the blunt truth or would you rather people temper their words? I tend to be blunt I think. Although I try to temper depending on the situation. So I think there’s a need for both. I remember coming home one day and Hubs saying “Your mom has cancer and has only 6 months to live.” I think that could’ve been relayed in a better way.
What’s one thing you’d rather pay someone to do than do yourself? Well, I used to be able to do just about anything myself and would. But after going through chemo and getting older, I’m unable. So basically anything that’s really physical or strenuous.
What are the qualities that tend to draw you to someone new? I’m not easily drawn to people. But it’s easier to relax around friendly people. It’s easier when you see them more often, like neighbors.
If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to? I’ve had this one so long I don’t think I would. If I had to go into Witness Protection or something, “Maybel” makes me laugh. I don’t know why.
Do you believe ignorance is bliss? Why or why not? Well… BEING ignorant is not such a good thing. It is NOT  the same as being stupid. You can fix ignorance by learning. Being ignorant of a particular thing that you don’t really need to know, is not really a bad thing. Like Hubs telling me some horror story in the news of something that happened to a child. I do not need to know that. It does nothing but cause pain and I could go the rest of my life not having that information.
What (if anything) do you consider unforgivable? Wow. Such deep questions! I’ll condense it into betrayal.

Do you ever break out into song just because you feel like singing? Maybe if I’m listening to music, I’ll sing along. But just randomly belting out a tune? No.

  1. Thanks for playing along! These sorts of things help people know each other a bit better I think. Not in some creepy way, but as a community. I could relate to many of your answers too! 🙂 And I snagged the S.A.M. cartoon. It’s going on my FB page because it’s so true.
