I’ve been thinking about changing the name of my blog for a while now. I’ve never really liked the name “Sprawly”, but at the time I got tired of trying to think of a name, gave up, and went with that. I’m not going to change the URL of this blog, so the name change won’t affect any of the wonderful people that are following it.
I went over to WordLab, which is a really cool place to find names, generate names, etc. I made a list of a bunch of candidates and then narrowed it down as best I could. Luckily I’m down to just four now. But I’m having a hard time deciding. I’m wondering what y’all think is the best. So I thought I’d try out a poll. I haven’t done a poll before so this would also be a learning experience for me.
I read up on putting a poll in a post, and promptly forgot most of it. I thought there was suppose to be a button here somewhere where I could add one. I’m not finding it. Guess I need to go back to the help document and re-read the procedure. Like it’s some kind of surgery or something.
Ok. Got it figured out. Finally. Maybe it WAS some kind of surgery. There’s no button to add a poll at the top of the editor, (or anywhere actually) like the support doc says. Thanks WP, btw. I got the poll created through the dashboard, and saved. But I didn’t know how to get it into this post. Finally, after much trial and error, I found the shortcode widget here in the editor and used it in a block with the shortcode of the poll. Checked it on the preview and the poll is there. Just hope it works now.
This might be a dumb idea. It wouldn’t be the first one I’ve had, so not a new experience. But still, y’all might think they’re all stupid, and that would be disappointing. And there’s the possibility that the poll might only get 2 or 3 votes (you know who you are). But really, I’m a full-grown adult, so WTH, it’s not gonna kill me. If you haven’t guessed, I have a bad habit of second-guessing myself. I hate that I do that.
Maybe you’d be interested to hear why I ended up with these four names? Maybe not. I should just let you interpret them in your own way. Feel free to comment if you’d like.
yup, the poll works. I did one once but can not for the life of me remember how I did it..nor do the direction make a darned bit of sense to me now. good luck on the name change hun.

Thanks for letting me know Suze, and thanks for voting! I agree about the instructions. The only thing that helped me was to create the poll from the dashboard. There was nothing about how to get it into an existing post.

You have to click through to the blog to see it (if my experience is anything to go by) as it doesn’t appear in The Reader. I have voted but am curious about the meanings behind the names.

Thanks so much Susan! I appreciate your input. I wouldn’t have a clue as to how to get it to show up on the Reader. Unless maybe it was in its own separate post.
As to what the names mean to me: “Chillenium” = keeping a calm attitude. “Half Full Future”= keeping a positive attitude in the future. Also that I’m older and my glass is not empty. “Neglectitude”= because there are times when I neglect my blog. “Dusty Rainbow”= because I’m constantly trying to keep my world dusted off literally and figuratively. Plus when I neglect something, including my blog it gets dusty.
Those are the short explanations.

I think The Reader may be set not to show anything too fancy! Thanks for the explanations. I’m happy with my choice!

I have no idea who votes for what, but thanks for taking the time to participate Susan! I appreciate it!

Thank heavens for secret ballots 🙂 I didn’t buck the trend.
Don’t feel you need to be swayed by what we voted. I once did a poll and was not entirely happy to go with the results. At least it clarifies the mind. I liked all the names and just picked the one I thought might be more memorable.

Hahaha! Thanks for the words of encouragement Susan. I did consider what I would do if I didn’t want to “go with the flow”. I just hope that people don’t feel like they wasted their time by voting if I don’t go with the top vote. They haven’t, because it’s giving me information and a valuable feel for what people think. Thank you again for taking the time to vote and comment! I really do appreciate it.

The British public did get rather upset when the government overruled their choice of Boaty McBoatface for the name of the Antarctic research ship, but I think you’ll be OK with this.

I was laughing at your struggle with WordPress and the poll. I find all of it so counter-intuitive that I am almost always pulling my hair out. I was even looking for another place I could blog that might be easier to work with. Well, your poll looks great, and I voted!!!

It’s always an adventure to try something new or find information on something here. But, once I figure it out, it’s good. Like the new editor. I just hate it when I can’t find the information or the instructions are lacking, like the poll. For what it’s worth, I’d hate to lose you as a friend Carol! It’s not about the blog for me, but it’s about the wonderful people I’ve met. Thanks for voting!!
