Lens-Artist Challenge #130- Close Encounters

Thanks to Anne Sandler for hosting this week’s challenge and for her excellent explanation of the difference between close-up and macro photography. It was very informative!

I love doing macro shots. It’s like looking into another world to me. Sure, most of my macros are of insects and flowers. Those are the things that I want to see in magnification; that I can’t get details on otherwise.

Praying Mantis are fascinating and great to photograph. They don’t care if you take their photo, and don’t fly off. So you can take your time with them. I’d like for these photos to be more crisp, but I guess that’s what I get for letting the camera do all the work. But truthfully, the camera knows more than I do. 🙂

It’s a little unnerving when they turn their head to look at you.
A Gerbera daisy.
A Lantana flower with a raindrop.

I consider the photo below to be more of a close-up than a macro. I think I could’ve gotten closer, but I was afraid he’d fly off.

A close-up of a cactus flower.
A lovely Foxglove.
