Lens-Artist Challenge #130- Close Encounters
Thanks to Anne Sandler for hosting this week’s challenge and for her excellent explanation of the difference between close-up and macro photography. It was very informative!
I love doing macro shots. It’s like looking into another world to me. Sure, most of my macros are of insects and flowers. Those are the things that I want to see in magnification; that I can’t get details on otherwise.
Praying Mantis are fascinating and great to photograph. They don’t care if you take their photo, and don’t fly off. So you can take your time with them. I’d like for these photos to be more crisp, but I guess that’s what I get for letting the camera do all the work. But truthfully, the camera knows more than I do. 🙂
I consider the photo below to be more of a close-up than a macro. I think I could’ve gotten closer, but I was afraid he’d fly off.
Great macros and closeups! I love the first one of the praying mantis just looking at you. Thanks for joining in and continue to enjoy macro shooting.

Wonderful close-ups – I especially loved the image of the praying mantis looking into the camera. The very definition of “beady little eyes”. Terrific

The Praying Mantis has such a sweet face. I hadn’t thought of them as being sweet before.

Haha! You do get a sense of personality when you zoom in on them. They’re certainly aware that you’re there, and not afraid.
